I’m talking about a potential disaster.<\/p>\n

A real one that almost happened. One that I didn’t see coming or plan for at all. And one that could happen to you.<\/p>\n

The Crash<\/h2>\n

Last night, very late, my desktop bombed.<\/p>\n

I’m talking catastrophic failure.<\/p>\n

BSoD, black screen on reboot, disk grinding constantly.<\/p>\n

Shit happens, right?<\/p>\n

Only… that desktop has all my crypto stuff on it.<\/p>\n

Everything.<\/p>\n

Wallets, logins, my Excel workbook I use for this blog, private keys, everything.<\/p>\n

Why You Should Care<\/h2>\n

Because this can happen to you, too.<\/p>\n

I didn’t do anything weird or unusual. The computer just decided to die, horribly.<\/p>\n

What would you lose if your device – whatever it is – did the same thing, today?<\/p>\n

Do you have backups of all your wallets?<\/p>\n

Do you have all your private keys written down?<\/p>\n

Do you have a backup of your 2FA info?<\/p>\n

Do you know all your logins and passwords?<\/p>\n

Do you have copies of everything else important?<\/p>\n

What would losing all your email mean to you?<\/p>\n

The Good News<\/h2>\n

I have all that.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, I’ve always been a computer person. I’ve always worked in IT and lived online.<\/p>\n

I was prepared by default, rather than realising too late.<\/p>\n

I have a daily backup script that runs every time I start the computer.<\/p>\n

It includes daily email backups (though I’ll be switching more accounts to IMAP instead of POP).<\/p>\n

It includes wallet backups.<\/p>\n

I have my keys stored safely.<\/p>\n

I have a backup of my 2FA info.<\/p>\n

I know my logins.<\/p>\n

The only thing broken was War Thunder, and I just deleted the dead file and it fixed itself automatically.<\/p>\n

Don’t Wait<\/h2>\n

If you don’t have backups of all that stuff, do it.<\/p>\n

Today.<\/p>\n

Trust me, it’s worth it for the relief you’ll feel when the Very Bad Thing happens!<\/p>\n
