{"id":334,"date":"2026-07-15T23:59:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T23:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bonjourgeorge.org\/?p=334"},"modified":"2026-07-15T14:36:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T14:36:34","slug":"earning-1m-through-crypto-poverty-and-crypto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bonjourgeorge.org\/?p=334","title":{"rendered":"Earning \u00a31M Through Crypto: Poverty And Crypto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publish0x.com\/earning-a-million-through-crypto\/earning-pound-1m-through-crypto-the-small-earnings-dilemma-xrpwzdn\">small earnings<\/a> last week, I&#8217;ve been thinking about crypto and being poor.<\/p>\n<p>One of the original, underlying concepts of Bitcoin was independence. It was created by one or more members of Cypherpunks, after all.<\/p>\n<p>Something outside the establishment, a way to move digital money without a third party, without the middleman, without having to sign up for an account and give up privacy.<\/p>\n<p>That concept applies really well to people living in poverty.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also where the whole trend of &#8220;banking the unbanked&#8221; started, before it became shorthand for &#8220;bringing crypto into the establishment so we can track it the same as everything else&#8221;. But we&#8217;re not talking about that today!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media2.giphy.com\/media\/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExanJoNjRleHoxb2ViYTMwdmV3a2RsenNvbWt2czY1YzRnanRwMmlkeCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw\/10PcMWwtZSYk2k\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"giphy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to take last week&#8217;s post a step further and think about how crypto can help when you&#8217;re poor.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been very well off at certain times in my life. I&#8217;ve also been poor.<\/p>\n<p>Very poor.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a32 to survive 3 days with no food in the cupboards and 2 people to feed poor.<\/p>\n<p>Eating 2-years-out-of-date spaghetti with cheap gravy poor.<\/p>\n<p>Losing 30% of my body weight poor.<\/p>\n<h2>How Can Crypto Help?<\/h2>\n<p>Poverty is, unfortunately, magnetic.<\/p>\n<p>Our current society is built to work best for people who have financial stability and gives the most to those who already have the most.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re below the stable level, or even at that level but your savings aren&#8217;t going to assets that grow &#8211; because they&#8217;re a backstop, an emergency fund, or simply cash that&#8217;s not earning enough to beat inflation &#8211; poverty can suck you back in with one crisis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media4.giphy.com\/media\/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExdGh0bTMyZDljd2liM2MxZm81bzVjbTQ0aG5tamhhaWJrdGlhOXR5eSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw\/5mYpmfzEuWhhbvtPxh\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"giphy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s assume you&#8217;re barely surviving and you&#8217;ve earned a little bit of crypto, like we were talking about last week.<\/p>\n<p>There are two main situations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are below the survival line<\/li>\n<li>You are constantly struggling but surviving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in the first, <strong><em>use your earnings<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>No arguments.<\/p>\n<p>Survival is all-important. If that extra dollar gets you to the pay-the-rent point, pay the rent. If it\u00a0buys food you need, buy the food.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in the second situation and don&#8217;t absolutely need the extra dollar\u00a0<em>right now<\/em>, read on.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publish0x.com\/@Lissy\">Lissy<\/a> commented on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.publish0x.com\/cryptonators-investments\/if-somebody-gave-me-100-dollars-and-told-me-to-start-crypto-xqvwrxj\">this excellent post<\/a>, &#8220;When you have very little (if any) room to breathe, spare money, and energy because you\u2019re constantly struggling, thinking about what\u2019s gonna happen in a year (or planning for it, or finding spare to invest for it) is extremely difficult.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So what CAN you do with, for example, that $1 you earned from p0x?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media0.giphy.com\/media\/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExNjY1aXpwYnJ1M2p4MWE3YzJjcmFxcGxqeXkzaG56dXNpd3Q1ODVjcyZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw\/RFfXtX9fmo9GM\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"giphy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first step is psychological: try to see the small earnings <em>as an extra<\/em>, outside your income struggles.<\/p>\n<p>Put them away and leave them alone.<\/p>\n<p>For now.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, you might need to access them in an emergency. That&#8217;s happened to me twice since I got into crypto, and I&#8217;ve had to re-start at zero each time, but the saved crypto saved my arse. That matters.<\/p>\n<p>But if it&#8217;s not an emergency, <em><strong>leave it alone<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Put those small earnings somewhere safe. That could be in your own wallet &#8211; with as few transactions as possible to keep sending fees low in future, so you might need to hold for more dollars first. It could be on a trusted exchange earning interest (holding your p0x USDC, for example). Or you could trade for staking coins and stake them.<\/p>\n<p>Do NOT go the betting route. Sure, it&#8217;s tempting, but it&#8217;s weighted heavily to the house and not the player. You might not need it now but you can&#8217;t afford to lose it. Save it.<\/p>\n<h2>Compounding<\/h2>\n<p>Like with most habits, the trick is compounding.<\/p>\n<p>Do it once, you&#8217;ll shrug at the difference and be convinced you could do something to earn faster.<\/p>\n<p>Do it ten times, you&#8217;ll start to feel the psychological pressure to fuck with the money because $10 is the start of something big, right?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media4.giphy.com\/media\/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExa29yZHZ6bGdzd24weG41bmRqazhiYW14OTl1dmYyb25xemtjNmF6MCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw\/YBgDyiteXReuAT8J69\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"giphy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Resist the temptation.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t even LOOK at it.<\/p>\n<p>Just keep saving.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a very small step but over time &#8211; years, especially &#8211; it grows.<\/p>\n<p>It compounds, the interest compounds, every drop you add fills the glass a little more.<\/p>\n<p>And then one day, when you&#8217;re absolutely desperate, it&#8217;s there for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you found good ways to save?
