But what about other coins/tokens?

I read 20 “best cryptos in 2026” articles to see if there’s any consensus (and to pick some for my longer-term growth holds that I mentioned last week).

The first thing I learned in my research is that 99% of websites with articles about this will splatter you with at least 3 pop-ups, slide-ins, overlays, Google logins and other annoying shit. Even the huge big-name sites do it. It’s like visiting 1990s Geocities all over again, without the desktop stripper.

The second thing I learned is that a lot of these “5 Best Cryptos” things are 4 obvious choices and 1 completely random unknown that the author’s been paid to (or feels like) promoting. They’re not much help but if you read enough of them, you start to pick up on coins to look at.

From my painful trawl of content, I ignored 5 general pieces about markets that didn’t name any cryptos, and made the following discoveries for what people consider the best cryptos to invest in now for 2026 from the remaining 15 articles:

Bitcoin (10 mentions), Ethereum (8), Solana (8)

Solana has become one of the “big three” for experts and professionals, replacing XRP, DOGE, and others (though XRP is still an establishment pet). That’s kinda huge news, but we’re already used to it. Everyone expects these to grow – probably to double – throughout the year. The only surprise is that so many articles feel the need to say it again, like we’re all too stupid to realise the big three are gonna rise in value.

I’ve already got those covered with Banking, though right now I’m about 40% ETH, 35% BTC and 15% SOL, I think, so I might look at adding more staked SOL.

Chainlink (9), Ripple (7)

I was stunned to see LINK mentioned so many times. I used to have some, back when it was down under 50c per coin, but it went nowhere for ages, so I dumped it. Now it’s back, because it’s “institutional” – their infrastructure is something TradFi loves and uses, so it’s on a lot of watch lists.

XRP is always on the list because it’s always been TradFi’s pet crypto. I hate it, won’t touch it, and don’t give two shits if it doubles. It’s the antithesis of crypto and should suffer horribly before it dies a painful death. But if you are less psychotic about it, it’s a very solid option for more growth because it’s vital to the whole TradFi cross-border payments stuff.

Avalanche (5), Cardano (4,-1), DOGE (4)

Both AVAX and ADA feel similar to SOL: they’re underlying cryptos that will be very useful… if they are adopted. You’ll see a lot of very careful hedging with “if” in these “best crypto” lists and both Avalanche and Cardano are prime examples. If a bunch of institutions adopt them and if development continues and if they can maintain usage growth and if… They’re not bad choices, but there’s a lot of ifs. That “-1” on Cardano is because some people refer to it as the “ghost network” – very little development, very little real usage, plenty of tumbleweed but not much else. It could all change (if), but I noted the significant negative opinion.

DOGE is on a lot of lists as a “yeah, it’ll grow” choice. I’d guess a 2x or 3x, though it’s starting to get some GameFi integration which could mean a big pump. It’s still fundamentally a memecoin so not something I will “invest” in. Given that it’s down around $0.12 at the moment and will certainly go back above $0.20 (unless something crazy happens), I will throw some money in for a successful 2x or better trade. If you don’t mind the memecoin tag, it’s a pretty safe option for bigger growth and much less likelihood of a crash, though just how high it will (or can) go is very risky territory for me. Too many “ifs” again.

BinanceCoin (3), Polkadot (3), Bitcoin Hyper (3), MaxiDOGE (3), PepeNode (3), Sui (3)

I think BNB is underrated in these lists, though that may be because there isn’t much room on “top 5” lists after you include BTC, ETH, and SOL (and perhaps because listing BNB isn’t very “exciting”). It’s a solid choice for growth, occasionally pumps, and will continue to be reliable for as long as Binance can pay off any crimes and shittiness they commit (so they’re good as long as the US government is for sale).

DOT and SUI are tipped for growth this year, with many of the same “ifs” that I saw for AVAX and ADA. The exception to that, for me, is SUI because it’s a new coin. I’ve learned from experience that if you offer people two cryptos that do the same thing, they’ll choose the new one over the older, more reliable, established one. They’ll do that even institutionally, because most CEOs are unbelievably stupid about technology and think The Next Big Thing is always best, so stuff it everywhere they can (exactly like AI).

Bitcoin Hyper gets attention because it’s a speed thing designed to run alongside BTC. But it’s a presale, so not for me. MaxiDOGE and PepeNode are the big two memecoins getting massive promotion before the new year – they both actually have utility and aren’t stupid, but they’re memecoins, so not for me (and in presale, for that matter).

ALGO, BFX, GRT, HBAR, IOTA, ONDO, MDR, SHIB, XLM (all 2 mentions)

We’re down in the “I got paid to promote this” area, where BFX, HBAR, MDR and others wallow. Alongside them are some really old coins that people are still hoping will grow, like XLM and ALGO. My favourite of those is IOTA: the Internet of Things is one of the worst ideas humanity has ever had, and tech bros have been trying to convince everyone to invest in their connected crap via IOTA since it first started. It’s gone nowhere, it’s still going nowhere. (And that probably means it’ll 100x next year because I always get it wrong.)

There’s nothing wrong with any of these choices. They’re heavily loaded with “ifs”, but that doesn’t mean they’ll stagnate. Both SHIB and XLM are good examples: they’ve been around for a while, proved they can work, still have developers and adoption. They could 10x, they could 100x, they could be as useful as a fart in a spacesuit.

What Are My Picks?

I’m looking for several coins:

A couple pretty stable, slow growth, longer term, to hold for a few months or a year, get a multiplied price, keep or sell for profit

A couple that might pump more, but also might go nowhere (though not down near to zero, thank you)

A couple for fun, which might pump massively (but probably not)

I already have SHIB (found in those dead wallets), so I’ve put that up for sale at 10x current value, for laughs.

My major choices, for stable growth, are LINK and SUI. These two get the biggest investment.

Chainlink was an obvious choice, appearing on so many lists: it’s one of the big institutional cryptos, with useful infrastructure and so on. It spent most of this year between $12 and $18, roughly, and I’ve bought at the lower end of that range (around $12.60). Predictions are 3x or more next year – by unnamed “experts” who I don’t trust much, but who say it frequently enough that I’ll take the stability to balance the low risk. CoinEx also does interest on it – most places don’t at all – even though it’s only 0.18% per year. I doubt I’ll bother moving it there, as the transfer fees would take a while to recoup, and it’d reduce my ability to react to a big price pump.

Sui’s less obvious. Why go with something that fewer people mention? Because I’ve been testing copy trading for months and they deal in SUI a lot. It’s a popular coin, one of those “promising” cryptos that may end up going nowhere, but since it managed a $5 price this year and is pretty stable, I thought I’d get in relatively low. Buying at the low end again, under $1.50 per coin, it doesn’t need to go very far to hit a nice multiple. CoinEx offers a pathetic 0.33% per year in interest to add a little more, though I doubt I’ll bother (same reasons as not moving LINK).

If either of these goes about 5x in the shorter term, I’ll dump it and take the win. 🙂

For minor choices, I looked at both AVAX and ADA. They’re both pretty stable and have a chance to move upwards this year, so I put a little in each – ADA is only 36c per coin, so a nice multiple doesn’t need much movement; AVAX is about $12 but gets more interest from traders. My guess is that these won’t move much, but we’re in a dip right now so I figured it’d be a safe bet to at least break even. If they double, I’ll most likely dump them. I don’t trust them to keep going unless I see some huge headlines.

For laughs, I threw a little into ALGO and PUMP. There are so many “ifs” tied to Algorand that it’s hilarious, but – again – I figure we’re in a dip, it’s been around for ever, and you never know. It’s currently near its lowest support, so it’s my “hail Mary” choice with only a little invested: no big deal if it dies, great if it pumps, will happily take a 2x but with so little in it will hold for a silly pump. These two get “throwaway” money (no money is throwaway, but I mean a small amount like when testing copy traders).

Speaking of pumps, Pump.fun’s coins is actually considered (by some) part of the crypto ecosystem because it’s a good way to launch coins. Most folks think of it as a memecoin, but it has a site and service associated, so I put it somewhere between the two. I threw a little in there because it pumps regularly anyway and, if folks decide the service is worthwhile and an ongoing part of things… well, you never know. Again, I’ll take 2x, hold for a massive silly pump, then reconsider at 5x.

I also have existing GRT, so I bumped the sell price on that in case it also pumps.

And, as I mentioned above, I’ve put some in DOGE, too, for a 2x or maybe more.

I’ve set high sells (typically 5x or more) on all of those coins. I’ll be watching them in my positions list, ready to take profit below there!

You Want Numbers?

We can do that. Here’s the list of all those I mentioned above:

Existing 2,895,757 SHIB, sell at $0.000071130

Existing 14,941 GRT (bought at $0.05395 before the dip), sell at $0.38

43 LINK bought around $12.36, TP at $61.80

331 SUI bought around $1.446, TP at $14.463

12.5 AVAX bought around $12.06, TP at $60.30

414 ADA bought around $0.363, TP at $1.821

940 ALGO bought around $0.11, TP at $1.10

56,593 PUMP bought around $0.001767, TP at $0.008835

1,217 DOGE bought around $0.1235, TP at $0.24

That’s about $2,500 in total investment. If they all hit TP (which will never happen), it’s over $16,500 in sales…

I’m considering making a nice Excel table of this and putting it in the weekly update, to follow progress on all those. Or at least check in every now and again to see how my choices fare!

What about you?
